After the Japanese government indicated acceptance of surrender terms, OSS
teams were formed to
be airdropped to sites of POW camps. It was feared, not without reason, that
Allied POWs would be
killed as "revenge" for Japan having lost. The teams were to present an
order from Allied command
to local Japanese officers stating that they must free all prisoners,
provide an accounting for all
prisoners, and protect prisoners from harm.
Each team consisted of one field grade officer; one doctor; two
interpreters; one radio operator.
All were volunteers. Lightly armed, they were to jump into Japanese military
sites uncertain of
their reception.
I am very interested to learn if possible, what radio equipment was carried.
It would have been
handcrank powered. SCR-694 ? PRC-1 ? TRC-10 ? Probably I will have to go on
a long search
through many memoirs. If you develop a lead, please let me know. Tnx - Hue
