[Milsurplus] DSB Command Sets

I was not doing ham radio, or any radio except maybe BCL, back in the
changeover days from AM
to SSB. But it does not look to me like any substantial number of Command
Set transmitters were
ever converted over to DSB. In fact it looks to me like DSB was a flash in
the pan and never caught
on to any degree. There were experimenters to be sure, but it *seems* to me
that these were
experiments, outliers. Apparently commercially built SSB radios were
reasonably enuff priced for
many hams, plus peer pressure to do the "real thing", made DSB die out
young. That's my reading of
it.
I do own a SSB transmitter, phasing system, built out of, and into a Command
Set transmitter.
I have changed my opinion over the years and now regard reasonably well-done
conversions
as a worthy genre by themselves. I suppose the dividing line would be- how
neatly done (how
respectable) and how much more into conversion land it is, than to easily
recoverable original
state. Something like that.
