[Milsurplus] DSB Command Sets

I was not doing ham radio, or any radio except maybe BCL, back in the 
changeover days from AM
to SSB. But it does not look to me like any substantial number of Command 
Set transmitters were
ever converted over to DSB. In fact it looks to me like DSB was a flash in 
the pan and never caught
on to any degree. There were experimenters to be sure, but it *seems* to me 
that these were
experiments, outliers. Apparently commercially built SSB radios were 
reasonably enuff priced for
many hams, plus peer pressure to do the "real thing", made DSB die out 
young. That's my reading of
it.
I do own a SSB transmitter, phasing system, built out of, and into a Command 
Set transmitter.
I have changed my opinion over the years and now regard reasonably well-done 
conversions
as a worthy genre by themselves. I suppose the dividing line would be- how 
neatly done (how
respectable) and how much more into conversion land it is, than to easily 
recoverable original
state. Something like that.
