Didn't the Wullenwebbers have more than one goinometer,
and more than one operating position?  I thought they had
quite a few.  I do know that they used triangulation as their
primary method, and established a "Star Point".   There were
other tasks, such as propagation testing, language training,
COMSEC monitoring, etc.   I also do know that the CW HF
Nets between them, (using outside HF facilities),  were of a
very high priority.  Been there.  Okinawa 1960 - 1964.  The
one we had there was operated by the Navy and the USAF
Security Service. 
Trivia:  They didn't use real goinometers as smaller HF and
VHF/UHF DF facilities did.  SCR-291, URD-2 and CRD-6.
Wullenwebbers were more like a few collinear dipoles
which could be steered to the proper direction, and with
optional antenna phasing the pattern could have a NUL
if that's what the operator wanted. 
Someone said there is still one in FL.
