Didn't the Wullenwebbers have more than one goinometer,
and more than one operating position? I thought they had
quite a few. I do know that they used triangulation as their
primary method, and established a "Star Point". There were
other tasks, such as propagation testing, language training,
COMSEC monitoring, etc. I also do know that the CW HF
Nets between them, (using outside HF facilities), were of a
very high priority. Been there. Okinawa 1960 - 1964. The
one we had there was operated by the Navy and the USAF
Security Service.
Trivia: They didn't use real goinometers as smaller HF and
VHF/UHF DF facilities did. SCR-291, URD-2 and CRD-6.
Wullenwebbers were more like a few collinear dipoles
which could be steered to the proper direction, and with
optional antenna phasing the pattern could have a NUL
if that's what the operator wanted.
Someone said there is still one in FL.
