Those old WW2 war years QSTs are good reading, I think. Many of them have
wartime
experience stories from ham radio people.
In the July 1945 QST there is a photo of Pfc. Robert Weinberg in the
Philippines
using his homebuilt regen. It's built in an old Army metal canteen, from
scrap
hardware from a wrecked plane and truck and enemy electronics. I think I
read
here or elsewhere about someone replicating this. I seem to also recall
reading
that the builder used 2 1R5 tubes, odd as that may seem - maybe those were
all
he could find. The photo caption says he uses it to listen to San Francisco
and
Armed Forces Radio from India. Unfortunately the photo is small and not
high-res, but it does give the overall appearance. -Hue Miller
