In 1963 on Okinawa the USAF was using the BC-339
as a driver for the BC-340 10 KW transmitter.   A few
came in pieces to the salvage yard, then to the MARS
station.  The thing of note is that the sides of those
transmitters were of a sheet of soft aluminum held in
place with thumb screws.  It was almost a quarter inch
thick, too big to bend, and difficult to hack saw.  Otherwise
it made good chassis material.   Trivia:  The BC-340 was
water cooled, so we had a real water distillery for making
pure water.   I've heard stories about the distillery, but it
wasn't all that large.
