Well, you had no way of knowing, but not in this case - it was a simple 
rod antenna, same length as the AN-104, but looks like a longer ARR-2 
antenna.

It appears to be a marker light of some sort, although it looks fairly 
large for such.

There are actually two ARR-2 antennas on these PB4Y-2 aircraft!  
Evidently they had need of triangulating to two carriers, or to a fixed 
base and a carrier.  I'll send you separately the external view of the 
top of the aircraft.
