[Milsurplus] RAX nix surveillance

I don't have my RAX manual handy, so I may
not remember this correctly, but isn't the RAX the
set in which the manual diagrams show no sidetone
connection and no muting circuit?
If so, that's quite an "oops" for something
intended to be a liaison set.
In fact, it would flat disqualify it.

I believe, for my own reasons I'll not repeat,
both RAX and RAV- whether or not they
were designed for it- were used at some time
in a surveillance role. Whether or not they were
the appropriate frequency range at the time
is irrelevant; the people writing the requirements
for this role need not have been any more
"up to date" and "correct" than the 20-year Major
who decided every set needed 15 of each type spare
tubes; he was used to sets that used 01As and 71As.

Equipment designed for and assigned to
an inappropriate role happened then and it happens now.
I don't know what they were listening for;
I have no data on that- yet.
But they were listening.

Remember how many things, over the years,
have been "poo-pooed" here, only to
have the documentation surface later.
"Never say "Never,"" especially in war.
"Humble Pie" don't taste good.  I know;
I've eaten lots of it ;-).
