I'm not a ground support guy. Anyone have any clue to answer Jane's
question about the panel truck?

Sounds like a Herculean job to make a mock-up of that size...

Hi Mike,
I came across your website when looking up "communications command set
with CW transmitter"....which I found in "/They Fought With What They
Had/" by Edmonds. Page 365 refers to this set being installed into a
panel truck by Lt. Stancill Nanney and T/Sgt. R. W. Stephens....and they
called it the Mobile Control Tower....used in clearing the B-17s and
A-24s for take-offs and landings.
Well, I'm wondering if you have any knowledge of that mobile unit first
made at Malang and then duplicated at Jogjakarta.
R. W. Stephens was my father...and I'm working on putting together a
large mock-up of an airfield with B-17, tents, jeep, pilot and crew,
radio tent, etc. Right now I'm trying to find out just what type of
panel truck they used....but can't find any reference to it except in
this book by Edmonds. I'm trying to locate Stancill Nanney, if he's
still living.
So....if you know anything about such a panel truck used as a mobile
communications unit I'd love to hear about it!
Many thanks for any information!
Jane Stephens Rhem
