Our company had supplied AC switchboards to a few East Coast vessels
and we began getting back horror stories of broken generator coupling
and other damages.
Sent a tech. to find the problem(s).
He had an old hand electrician to do parallaling and noted that the guy
was closely watching the voltage and not bothering about the syncroscope.
A left over from synchronising the 220Vdc.
Problem solved.
Never thought that a similar problem would appen in 67 when we built
a 460V ac 3ph substation as a shore supply for visiting RCN ship.
The engineering chief told us to throw the main sw. ON, Big Bang.
The operating ship's electrician had forgot to synchronise the ship's
generator to shore supply.
