John:
I just checked on the HNSA site under "Electric Power Distribution Systems
(1998)" and they state that all Navy Ships operate with ungrounded power.
For shops aboard that need it, they now install GFI systems in the spaces
needed.
>From that I think the the WW2 stuff was not grounded except where needed.
My manual for my TCZ (ART-13) showes 110v DC with no provision for a ground
except what was needed for RF. I sailed on the U.S.N.S. J. E. Robinson
(TAG-170) in the 60's (was orginally S.S. Czechoslovakia Victory) and seem
to remember that every thing outside of the Electronic Spaces was one wire
and the Hull was the other leg ! ! ! !
