[Milsurplus] Item 370439487866 on eBay

Has anyone seen the BC-348-R that popped up on eBay a few hours ago?

It looks pretty rough externally, like maybe it's been stored in a very
humid environment. Knobs look sorta corroded, but then they ARE pot
metal (or cast AL), so...

Internally, it looks completely unmolested, un-hammified, and as near as
I can tell from the numerous pix it is nearly or totally original. It
even has its DM-28 and original male power input connector! There are
some missing and at least one incorrect tubes, and the NE-48(?) is
missing, but those are trivial items.

Depending on how "perfect" one might want to make it, it looks like it
could be fairly decently restored with a careful touch-up of the panel,
and a refinishing job on the knobs. The "baddest" part of the external
resto would be the lousy looking plastic nomenclature plate. I have made
SOME of those look like (almost) new by carefully cleaning them with
trichlorethylene (yes, I still have a quart or two despite the EPA's
nannies best efforts) to remove the MFP varnish with which they are
often sprayed. The plate on this -348 looks like it has a coat of MFP,
and I THINK it would clean up nicely.

Needless to say, the crapola Micamold caps would have to go...

Anyway, I hope someone on this list grabs it to keep it out of the hands
of some self-styled "improver/upgrader".

Ed Greeley
