Encoders? Really?

Do you mean synchros and pots?

Why not the original electronics? It's be a whole lot less work to get
that working than design new electronics.

If you are determined to make it SS, you have to accurately analyze the
frequency/phase response of the entire electronics system and replicate
it. This is a non-trivial task, IMO.
