Nick,

They must have been around but I am not sure what they would have talked to
in the aircraft. During the first year of the Korean War it appears Navy
and Marine aircraft were still carrying VHF sets. A book I read two or three
years ago says that during the withdrawal from Choisen, 1st MARDIV was
still carrying MAW's (VHF) to talk to the supporting Corsairs.

The RDR was primarily an auxiliary receiver, used alongside the MAR. Like
the R-108/9/10 with the RT-66/7/8 or the R-442 with the RT-524. One of the
Ad Hoc Jeep sets assembled circa 1949+ is AN/MRC-12 (MAR plus RDR).
However, there was a small DC generator built to charge batteries for the RDR. I
have one somewhere around here. So there must have been some cases of the
RDR being used by itself. Or maybe it was used as a low power consumption
monitor so that the RDR could be left off until the transmitter was needed.

AFAIK there was no TDR or equivalent.
