That doesn't sound like a very sincere response from your local AC power distributor. Then there's the problem of whether most of the offending noise is getting into your receivers directly through the air or via the AC line that powers you receivers. Surplus AC line filters show up at hamfests all the time and are a good investment. Most of these have a good choke & capacitor arrangement that will kill quite a bit of AC line noise. If you've got a well stocked junk box or two the pieces needed to build one are probably already in your possession.
