Been having fun using the SCR-183 on our local 75 mtr nets.
You've likely heard of using regeneration to "sharpen"
the BC-229 receiver's selectivity.
I hadn't had much luck with it, until now.
Here's how:
Turn on the receiver and set it to the freq you want to use.
Put the receiver in "MANUAL" mode;
you can't get good control on AVC.
Adjust the Antenna Tuning for max signal, then turn the
control a half-turn clockwise from that setting.
Connect a wire to the antenna connector.
Run it back to the forth tube in line.
Make a loop in the wire and hang it next to the 4th tube.
Your Antenna Tuning control is now your "Regeneration"
control. Turn the control slowly and carefully counter-
clockwise. You will hear the signal start to "rush-up"
just before breaking into oscillation. You'll likely
have to re-tweek the main tuning as the selectivity increases.
The volume control might also have some effect.
Tweek around with the wire location and Antenna Tuning control
and you will be surprised at the improvement.
