The original BC-191 spec included TU-3-A (400-800 KC) and TU-4-A (800-1500
KC). I've never actually seen a TU-4 but I have a TU-3-N made 1942/3. It
appears to me that "someone" changed the requirements slightly and that the
TU-26-A was ordered as a match to the later BC-224's and BC-348's (or vice
versa). The associated dates seem to match up (1940 or early 1941). Possibly
someone thought SCR-193's or SCR-188's could be used to set up MF tower
communications at advanced bases or something like that. The TU-26 would sub
for TU-3 for 500 KC capability in the aircraft, too.
