Was just looking at these two set ups on Mike's page again and
marveling at the earlier approach of one rack for all three sets. It
certainly had benefits over the separate rack approach, but also a few
drawbacks.
For advantages, it only needs one connector(not counting the three
which are an integral part of the rack)! Versus 7 for the later set
up. Only four feet/shock points for mounting. No junction box required
beyond the 'mixing box' mounted to the rack itself.
Disadvantages would include cost: those cast connectors mounted to the
rack had to be pretty pricey to manufacture, along with the rack
itself. Three-receiver rack would preclude single or two receiver set
ups without wasting the space of a third. Also, the position of the
junction/mixing box would limit the mounting possibilities to a great
extent.
So, while the original format seems to indicate that all three
receivers were intended to be used in each installation, it appears
they realized early on that they were limiting themselves and changed
over after 75 had been produced.
Those prototype sets are pretty cool, too. Especially looking at the
aerial set up as it is vs. where it must have started.
