People forget that properly shaped sawtooth waves have a high harmonic content, and that plays hob with the various capacitors in the circuit if they are at all lossy at HF. It took TV set designers many years to understand why the capacitors in the vertical circuits were so prone to failure. The failures in the horizontal circuits were blamed on high voltage, but high harmonics were the real problem.

I had to replace the timing capacitor in the blocking oscillator
to get the sweep full-width and reasonably linear (not a BC-1031
but still a Panadaptor).
