Subject: [Milsurplus] Radio in "Pacific Theater" Picture

Looks like the R-100 morale radio... BC band plus 2 SW bands, no BFO. Just a
tuning knob, bandswitch, and volume control. Works on AC-DC 110/220 or
batteries. Mostly Loktal tubes (1LN5 etc.) except for 3Q5 and 25L6 audio
output tubes. An Ingenious power supply: in AC operation, the cathode of the
25L6 provided the 1.5 filament voltage for the Loktals. In battery
operation, the 3Q5 was the output tube. AC voltage change was accomplished
by switching in a couple of big wirewounds in the line. Notable feature of
this radio: no one, to my knowledge, has ever seen a nameplate or the name
of the manufacturer. They have Hallicrafters-type round knobs. Chassis was
isolated from the case by a masonite board on the bottom which also carries
the schematic.

On the other hand, I don't recall what seems to be an old style tube shield
can in the approxiamte center. But the slots in the cabinet suggest it's the
R-100. I could be wrong.

Talking with my brother about the WWII movie series on TV ?Pacific? and he
came up with some pictures from a news article that are in very good detail.
Check out the link http://tinyurl.com/yf19syg . Can anyone identify the
radio in Picture #69? Has it's back open to camera with a rifle leaned up
against it.

I assume it is a moral radio?
