In WWII it was not unheard of that our advancing
forces in Europe would grab a civilian radio if they
came  across one in the field.  
Looking at the back of the radio in the picture
doesn't say much.  Maybe a power transformer
on the right.  Why are the two tubes and what
looks like an IF can placed like that?  What's
that on the left?  I don't remember anything we
ever built was laid out like that.
