I'm curious whether there's any particular reason (such as where you happen to live) that prevents you from using real magazines, or at least obtaining one of them as a model for replicas. The M1911 and its countless civilian descendants have been in continuous mass production for nearly 100 years, and magazines for them are very commonly available... at least in the U.S., that is.
