To anyone who hasn't gotten their BC-474 working yet,
just in case you don't already know: 
Do Not ground the B- to the receiver.  
To do so will be instant death for the primary 
of  your audio output transformer. 
If yours is already dead (one of mine was), 
you can sub a resistor across the open primary 
and cap-couple audio to an amplified speaker
or a hi-Z set of headphones.
If you insist on removing the dead transformer,
one from a Command Set will work in a pinch
and there's just barely enough room to tack it in there.
If you can find an old battery-operated consumer set,
it might provide a transplant.
