I was just the other nite looking at some "Electron" magazines of the US
Navy,
this magazine is the successor to "Radio and Sound Bulletin", and I saw a
couple
items about scrounging. One I recall was an article on keeping old sets
around
to cannibalize for parts. The other was a notice that SF was sending out
EIGHT ARC-1 radios in partial condition to 8 Navy activities for spare
parts.
This was 1951.

Electron pretty interesting altho mostly Radar and next, Sonar. Hardly
anything on radio. Did have a nice photo of the Haiku TH Alexanderson
Alternator VLF transmitter ca. WW2, also an article on Bainbridge Island
near Seattle Navy radio station - I had thought it was only an intercept
point for Pacific traffic, but it was the full deal, even a 58 kc/s LF
transmitter
to serve the North Pacific. Someday "we" ought to maybe scan in
R&SB and Electron. I don't know when R&SB started. I could figure
out when Electron started and ended as I have the full run. Ended
about '53, if I recall. -Hue Miller
