Alas... the "dirty old boxes under the table" have
all but disappeared at the hamfest I've attended.
People die and the kids, thinking them "junk boxes,"
throw them in the trash. An old guy, hoping to pay
for the diapers and formula for the new grandbaby
his daughter has given him to raise, is trying
to sell his R-4B and doesn't take the time to gather
the old boxes. When the daughter finally figures out
that Mommy and Daddy are *not* going to live forever
and pay her bills, she throws the box of treasure away, too.
In any case, there aren't many "dirty old boxes" at
hamfests anymore.
