I sort of forgot the one odd shipping method that's out there. Greyhound Bus lines. Sort of inconvient as parties on both ends must pick up at the depot. It is the method of choice for dealers shipping neon signs. It makes sense too, no conveyor belts and general work force involved. Pretty much the driver and perhaps a helper at a big depot handle the package. I have done sveral neon's and a French tandem race bicycle this way. Not cheaper than UPS but on these type of item UPS was known as " United Parcel Smashers".

Let me second that.  I don't know about the other parts of
the country, but here in NE Texas, Home Depot sells some
pretty good boxes for way less than even WallyWorld.
