I have an AN/CRR-1, which is just a Setchel-Carlson beacon band receiver
model 591, without any military name tag. The manual mentions in small
print that it is the AN/CRR-1. The info at the site that Nick brought
to our attention:

http://cgsc.cdmhost.com/cdm4/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=/p4013coll8&CISOPTR=2695&CISOBOX=1&REC=7

says that it was intended to allow two-way Morse comms around 500 kc, with the
BC-778 "Gibson Girl" as the transmitter. (MCW was mandatory, since the AN/CRR-1
has no BFO, and only tunes up to about 420 kc, so there would be a split there.)

The same document also describes and pictures the AN/ARC-6, -7, and -10, in
addition to more common stuff. Fascinating!

That document is Section 2 of a 4-section work. The other three sections
(1 - Countermeasures, 3 - Radio Navigation, and 4 - Radar Navigation) are also
on this site.

Thanks Nick for bringing this to the attention of the list. I'll be busy
with this for a long time.
