I have somewhere on the other computer, one with its belly pointing up, an
article someone in the Pacific War
theater wrote. Very detailed instructions on how to build. Maybe some of you
remember that article, or did
its links appear here? I suspect it was more of a diversion, than a
necessity, there, though.

BTW, for actual POW radios, I have only read of ONE that was a crystal type
radio - that was TOTALLY scratch
built including the headphone, by an officer (maybe General?? ) imprisoned
at Shanghai WW2.
Two interesting books on experiences with Pacific War POW radio are "Railway
Man" and "Prisoner of the
Japanese". The latter book[s author states in his opinion, DOZENS of POW
radios were working among the
Burma railroad building slaves, but after one radio was discovered, with
predictable result, almost all of those
radios were discarded by their owners.
Latter book also has very interesting numbers on differential survival rates
among nationalities. Surprise -
the nationality most adept at "slacking" and most viewed as "lazy and weak"
by their captors, were actually
the most survival-savvy and had the highest survival rate. That is the
Dutch colonials.
