What about 28 volt industrial control transformers? 80VA (2.8 amps @ 28
vac) units go for less then $28 each new from Mouser. Seems a lot easier to go
this route then to rewire!

Subject: [Milsurplus] Command set tubes
Hi,
I have a pair of Q5er BC-453 receivers here. Both need recapping. I have
to decide how I want to deal with the heater strings in these while the
wiring is accessible. I have lots of 12 volt applications and so 12
volts for the heaters is most easily available here. One suggestion has
been replace the 12 volt tubes with 6 volt tubes and leave the wiring
alone. I started looking at which 6 volt tubes to use and hit a snag
right away with the 12A6 output tube. 6 volt substitutes that I can find
draw far more current than the 6 volt substitutes for the other 12 volt
tubes. I know how to add a resistor to futz with the voltages on each
heater for that situation but why bother. Rewiring for parallel would be
better. Does somebody here have suggestion or a place I can look for the
suitable tubes to retain the series heater stings as-is for 12 volt
operation? I think installing the right 6 volt tubes is my best solution
with a parallel string in second place. Anybody?
73,
Bill
