If your going to go that route,do a bang up job!
I'll bet the guy that built it had a lot of fun and learned a few things doing it.Who knows, maybe it was a "hot" receiver and he got his WAS with it.Remember ,the past is past.
I did that "ARC-5" conversion where you hack sawed off a receiver rack section and bolted it to a dual transmitter rack to make that Rx-Tx set in the Command Set Handbook. I also rewired an Arc-5 Tx and bent the pins on the Tx connector slightly so that an BC-* and an ARC-5 Tx could both be plugged in and use a stripped down SCR-274N Modulator.
I was 16 then. But I learned alot about circuits, schematics, soldering (and hack sawing). It was acceptable "ham" practice to hack up old worthless surplus back then.I had a good time doing it too. Those halcion days are worth remembering.
My collecting interests are far different from those young formative years, so I do very much respect the need to preserve that which is worth preserving. My collection proves that out. At some point, when I retire,(soon I hope) I will create a web site, build the shop and have a small personal museum which will then be left to a worthy cause when it comes time to visit that Eternal Surplus Store.(I hope it's like G&G Radio Supply in N.Y.C. Floor to ceiling (think warehouse) NOS T-20 and -21 AN/ARC-5 Tx's.Nobody wanted them, they were cheap, and ready to hack.Surplus Conversion Manuals were like bibles back then).
Hornets? Ha. It's those little RF burns I remember.Bore a hole in your finger and it didn't bleed! Amazing!
