[Milsurplus] Old Computers, DOS, IBM, etc.

Just to add to the mix, I still have an original mid-1980's Macintosh, which
pretty much started to define a GUI for non-mainframe users (except for the
ill-fated Apple 'Lisa'). I never saw a "C:\" on that screen! Lots of PC's
and Macs have crossed my desk and subsequently fallen on the floor, but I've
never had the heart to dispose of that cute little original Mac.

The 1984 anti-Orwellian TV ad with the athletic woman smashing "big brother"
on the screen in front of a numb-faced, glaze-eyed hoard is still a classic.
That ad coincided with the introduction of the original Macs.

My first "computer" was an Ohio Scientific kit, 6502-based with 8K (that's
Kilobytes) of static ram and a Teletype ASR-33 for I/O with punch tape
storage.

One of the fellows commented on keeping older processor computers - and a
few more chimed in on the list. Just to let you know, there are Computer
collectors out there - with their own email lists (just like this one!),
hobby shows, museums and exhibits! They are interested in hardware as well
as software in the US and esp. Europe. I know there a few of us on this
list, too.

Got a mint copy of IBM DOS 1.0? You won't believe what it might sell for...

I used to collect actively, but interests wander and I have disposed of
most....but I still subscribe to the lists and pass along my finds. I'm
still looking to acquire 487 CPUs...:-) Bill KA3AIS
