last year or two in EOS, the weekly newspaper from the American Geophysical Union, there was an article about ionospheric disturbances over Taiwan that were noted just prior to an large earthquake there. This may also tie in with the magnetic field observations at Parkfield. As they say, "the jury is still out" but this is being looked into by the scientific community. maybe hams around the world can aid the researchers by noting propagation anomalies. I'll see if I can dig up the article again.
