Of course the BC-348 is using the same 991 for voltage regulator.
Interesting that the Russians used a standard, octal VR type tube (Russian
SG-2S, 72 V firing voltage) for regulating the local oscillator voltage in
their US-9 receiver, which is the clone (with some improvements) of the
BC-348R.

Yep nothing like the hum.... of a dynamotor and the pink glow of the 991 
lamp to give your old warbird radio a heart.
It also lives in the LM Frequency meter set.
