[Milsurplus] 1950's Navy airborne HF question

I submit that all of these differing installations were, in fact, valid
and actual. What's in the Erection manual is one thing.
What was available when they needed a radio in the aircraft
was something else. They used what they could get at the time.
I would not be surprised to see a photo of SCR-274N receivers
paired with a TA-12 in a Navy aircraft.
You can find on the web reports from Naval commanders
at Iwo Jima that contradict each other about what radios
were doing what jobs. I think it was a matter of personal
perceptions at the time; one man sees an action from his
ship, another man from his. I just sent Gordon a period photo
of a Wildcat with two "kill" marks which is equipped with
GF/RU, yet there are still people who insist that the
Navy switched everyone to VHF just after the Titanic.
If they put MHF/VHF AN/ARC-5 in an aircraft in 1945,
and they were still flying that aircraft in 1955,
I'd bet even money it would still have that AN/ARC-5 in it,
especially if it was a training or utility aircraft.
Ditto with an AN/ARC-1, etc.
