And a photo in Radio News, ca. 1944 - 1945, showing in the radio position, 2 
ATC's
with ARB receivers. And other stuff - a display unit of some kind - radar?

Re RAK / RAL - I don't think they were that widely distributed. "Navy 
Retread" talks
about only 1 or 2 type RAO on the Corvette. And I've not seen a pix of a 
carrier
radio room, that seems to have more than at most a couple RAK / RAL.
I suspect these were uniformly issued to subs as the receivers were simple
and possibly less trouble prone, and easier to service if failed, in this
restricted environment. I note that the subs also carried a  model RBS too.
