Interesting, I will have to try that. All my previous experience has been
that the inside of the metal shell is lined with glass, and, it is what
gives it its hermetic seal. Most metal tubes also just have 4 tabs on the
bottom part to attach them to the base, hardly enough to seal them. 73 -

Actually, that's not the case, except for some non-RCA products that 
were leveraging existing technology or ducking patent issues.  Just take 
a hack saw to an RCA metal tube, and you'll see what I mean.  The only 
glass is in the seals where the wires exit the tube.
