Its been said that dogs were found on Kiska after the
Japanese departed. I don't know why the Japanese
had dogs in combat zones, but in 1950 the dogs on
Kwajaline and Enewetok, which were left from the war,
were from someplace. (There were only five or six.)
The locals said the Japanese brought the dogs.
I've heard the Cold Bay story before, but none of my
USAF acquaintances who were stationed there at one
time or another ever heard of such a cave. One
thing I do know, all the small islands down that way that
I was ever on for a while had evidence of military vehicles
having been dumped into the lagoon, and some were
used to make causeways. Actually, at the end of the war
it was less expense to dump things than it was to haul it
back to the States, and then what? At low tide one could
see where the inspection plates had been removed to let
the sea water in. That provided homes for thousands of
sand crabs which scurried around inside. EOT
