Henry asked:
When I brought up the anniversary date, I was wondering what the command
and organizational structure was in 1941. Also, did Naval aircraft also
utilize land based (AAF) facilities?
What were the communications structure, in terms of frequency allotments
inter-service communication, type of radio equipment used and the like?
I've read some stories about army radar picking up the incoming Japanese
aircraft.
Who, which service, if it was not equally shared, had the top level
command ?
I'm sure I could dig much of this up on the internet, but I have the
impression that not so few here
on these reflectors have personal knowledge of these matters.
My apologies if my query is too comprehensive.

Hi Henry,
I have no answers about radio frequencies nor interservice
communications from that time or now. I began studying the Pearl Harbor
and Midway battles while I was in high school. When I watch the
documentaries and the entertainment movies presented these days I can
see how people might conclude that the Army airfield is/was part of the
Pearl Harbor naval facility. The Army lived next door to the harbor and
was/is a separate command. Navy in the harbor. Army on the airfield
"next door". There are other, separate military installations on the
island, too. "Pearl Harbor" is used to name the entire incident of
December 1941 because the U.S. Pacific fleet was the primary target of
the Japanese and the most spectacular damage occurred there. The
airplanes on the Army airfield were only of interest to suppress
resistance during the attack on the fleet. Those aircraft posed little
threat to the Japanese interests in the western Pacific. The fleet
certainly did.
Coincidentally, I served in the Pacific Fleet and also ashore at Pearl
Harbor in the 1960s. I was always aware of the fairly 'recent' history
of the places I visited (~20 years earlier).
I hope this helps.
