Hi Jay

According to the manual for the *AN/ARR-2 (AN16-30ARR2-2):

"Army-Navy Nomenclature System can be recognized
by the slant bar in the type designations. The asterisk (*)
prefix to type designations indicates standardization between
either Army or Navy and other United Nations."

That's what it says, but I don't know what the second sentence
really means. Exactly *what* is standardized? Technical specs?
Installation specs? Operational specs? Security requirements?
