Robert and all:
HP/Agilent (not that they make much true mil surplus) changed from Phillips to Pozidrive in the 70s, and continue. Have found Pozidrive in odd mil test equipment off the bottom of Phil's trailer. OK on the early use at Collins. I recall visiting Motorola's car (entertainment) radio plant in Seguin in the late 60s, and they used every driver style known to man. I asked one of the line supervisors about that, thinking of the poor service shop who had to keep a dozen different drivers to repair stuff, and he told me it was to keep the production line from using the wrong fastener since their driver only fit the correct one. Glad that idea never caught on elsewhere. GE Mobile Radio used cad plated steel Phillips exclusively while I was there in the early 60s, for the very reason you gave, magnetic drivers and almost self aligning heads.
73,
George
