I would say in the equipment we normally talk about that during WW-II
slotted head fasteners were much more common. But certain contractors did use
Phillips. Collins for one. Look at any COL--52286 or T-47, and most TCS
components. If a TCS receiver or transmitter has slotted screws (and if they
are original to the set) then it isn't from one of the Collins built models.
I suspect the increase in usage of Phillips head screws came about with
mass production of cheap electronics. A magnetized Phillips screwdriver will
hold a small screw well enough to do one hand installation, with automated
equipment for example. Anyway, it's just a guess but I'd say 60's and later.
I think Pozi-drive was an attempt to fix the relatively short service life
of the Phillips screwdrivers. But the main places I know of where
Pozi-drive screws were for certain used were on door and seatbelt attachment
hardware. Which more recently seems to have changed to Torx.
