I don't have any actual hard info on the AN/SPA-1 but the single entry on 
it in my main database agrees with you. Besides the xPA- and xRA- 
nomenclature groups being something of a catch-all, there were a few examples at the 
beginning and over the years where the wrong nomenclature was assigned. One or 
two were corrected but most were not.  Which isn't to say that I think 
AN/SPA-1 was incorrect.  I don't know enough about it to say.
