John,

No.  AN/SPA-4 and AN/SPA-8 (both I think replaced by the partially 
solid-state AN/SPA-25) were PPI's (Plan Position Indicators).  Like AN/SRA, AN/SPA 
was somewhat of a catch-all nomenclature.
