One problem with the NTE 121 is Vcbo. The 2N2287 is 120 V, the NTE121 is only 60 V. The other voltages have the same problem. BTW, the 2287 to NTE 121 cross reference is not in the current (yes, they are still being printed) NTE book. NTE 179 is a little closer with Vcbo of 90 V.

I just did a google on PRC-47 inverter transistors

The first two items that came up seemed like they might be helpful.
Dennis Starks' "So Now You Have a PRC-47" at www.prc68.com/I/NYH_PRC47.htm
(or maybe that's a lower case l instead of an upper case I in the URL)

www.prc68.com/I/PRC47.shtml
says NTE121 is not correct, NTE179 is correct, says NTE180 is silicon
instead of germanium but works perfectly

and someone else says ECG 121 MP (a matched pair) are the only thing
that will work, as will 2N1544.

Seems like enough there to get you started.
