Hi Al,
What is this? You're getting the same model obscure surplus gear I have?
First, the RCAF ATR-5 and now the GRC-13? ;-) .
I got the Navships manual reprint from Robert Downs. And indeed, the
internal bay is for the BA-48. The power requirements are identical to those
of the GRC-9, power output is the same, and some circuits are very similar.
Even the accessories like the handcrank genny are similar to those of the
GRC-9, yet different... The main difference is the power plug. In fact, I
have to get the power plug myself. My GRC-13 has no accessories, just like
yours. One of the original crystals in mine is somewhere in the low end of
the 80 M ham band, so I could listen to some CW activity there, with the
receiver powered by a BA-48. I found mine about 12-13 years ago at
Baranowski's Surplus (Baran's as he's called nowadays).
I looked at the auction just now and you got yourself a bargain...

Subject: [Milsurplus] Need AN/GRC-13 Info
Gang,
Good friend Jim pointed out this virtually unknown set to me on E-bay,
and now I'm in deep kimchi.
This appears to have been RCA's late-in-the-war replacement for the
TBX. It's about the same size and shape, but has about 17 times more
stuff inside. AM or CW on 10-preset crystal-controlled channels (one
FT-243 per) between 2-12 MHz. 15 of the usual miniature tubes plus a
submini in the noise limiter and a 2E22 in the PA. Internal bay for a
receiver battery, probably a BA-48.
For starters, I need a manual: NAVSHIPS 91235 and/or Marine Corp SIG
M8-AN/GRC-13. Also need a power connector. Yeah, I know, call Willian
Perry.
Who ended up with the other one that sold in 2007?
Any help appreciated.
Regards,
Al
