How about this.

Invent a new kind of distortion that only those with Platinum Ears can
hear and attribute it to vintage transmitting tubes having lost some
"special essence" that only newly manufactured tubes have. Assert that it
can be totally eliminated by using the lastest type of FETs. Then promote
it via a viral campaign.

That'd solve the audiophoolery problem nicely!
