[Milsurplus] interesting Radar history web site

Gents:

Seems to be an excellent read for education and research. Section
X.3 - US RADARS lists the AN/APS-13 as a tail warning RADAR for fighters,
which is true enough. But four of these so-called "Archie" RADARs also were
incorporated into the Little Boy and Fat Man weapons as altimeter RADARS.
Its range of up to 2000 feet was adequate to determine triggering altitudes
below that level (Little Boy was triggered at 1850 ft AGL).

I 've always thought it the greatest of all ironies that four Yagi
antennas were part of this device that was used to attack the homeland of
its inventors.

BTW - I searched my bookshelves in the basement for my 1987 issues of
IEEE Spectrum to find the references cited by Nick in another e-mail and I
find that only last year I discarded such mags from the 80s to recycling.
Doh!
