My own SCR-183 is a mongrel mix of AS and AR pieces, along with the
TM-AH-172 junction box from Fair Radio. The AS and AR appear to be
identical, with the AS built by Philco, and the AR by Western Electric.
I have had one or two pieces of AO and AN, but wound up trading them off.

I wonder how "pure" the sets stayed in actual service.

I put my set together back in about 2002, and at that time it was
putting out 3 watts, but when I brought it down to MRCG this year, the
best I could get was about 1.5 watts.

I picked up a "Radio Junction Box", that is what is stenciled on
the Dzus fastened cover, from Warbird Parts, it looks like it
might be for an SCR-283. It has a wiring diagram in the cover, but no
Signal Corps nomenclature plate, or any marks that would identify
manufacturer or aircraft type, just some part numbers stamped in the
metal pieces, things like "10-1026".

When using the set on 75 meters, I am toying with the idea of cheating
by putting a converter in the receive antenna line, and using the BC-229
as a Q-5er on about 300 kc or so. The converter is built, but all my
radio activities are on hiatus right now, and probably wont be resuming
until this summer.
