Thanks for writing, Hue, Robert and all.

The set is a full-up SCR-183. The transmitter
is a BC-AN-230. When tuning-up a set like this,
I use the "phantom antenna" called for in the manual
to tune the set to its designed operating point.
I leave all the tranmitter tuning untouched after that,
then find a way to match the antenna to the radio.
Mike Hanz "UnUn" followed by a small tuner
is one solution. Haven't gotten to that point yet.
Still need to do some voltage checks and find
out why the output's low. So far, I've found
an open 25 mFd cathode bypass cap, a couple
of aged-high resistors and a special 120 pFd
silver-mica cap, used to bypass the resistor
that's developing bias for the modulators.

A photo of the set is at:

Yes; I know the cabling isn't correct.
Still need some connectors.
The set is a "mix-n-match" at the moment.
I'm a "completeist," meaning I strive to have everything
in a set from the same version- even the same contract
if I can get it. As with my SCR-274N, the goal of
which is to be completely 1470-NY-41 order,
I will replace each piece as I find it until
I get the whole set "unified."
I also have the external oscillator for CW,
but haven't decided to incorporate it.
More on this later- got to get the kids to church.
