Howdy, Bob!
You've just encountered the big GOTCHA! with BC-654s.
The 1948 Editors and Engineer's Radio Handbook claims that the 307A
was used in ONLY
ONE hunk of equipment; the BC-654!
The 307A is suppressor grid modulated, so that obviously means a
suppressor grid type
tube is needed, unless you want to run CW only... in which case I'd
rewire for the 807.
Best bet with a suppressor grid, IMHO, is to look at the 837, the VFO
tube from the ART-13.
Re. your parts radio... I'm betting you can't help on this one, but
I've been looking high and
low for the telegraph key cover. I've got the base, and even the
oddball original key... but no
cover.
