Micromark is a good source for mold making supplies. I use their products for the molds for the various reproduction items that I make. Their URL is

Basically you need a container that is somewhat larger than the item. Then you put the item "right side up" in the bottom of the container and pour the mold making solution around the item and up to about 1/4th inch over the item. Let the mold sit for the required time (4 hours for what I use) and then remove from the container. Remove the item and you are ready to go.

I use Micromark #82083 one to one rapid liquid silicone rubber. It has a "pot" life of 30 minutes (the time before it starts to "set") and then a cure time of 4 hours. It isn't that expensive and you get enough solution to make quite a few molds. I have tried other products and they just didn't work.

Need your Feed back: Conceptually this seems simple, but I have been there before; and it was not pretty: Any Comments, has anyone attempted to make a mold?

What materials would I need to make a simple mold for a small plastic part?
